A record 28.6m people in the UK visited Facebook in May, according to figures, released by UKOM/Nielsen, pushing it up into second place in the list of the UK’s most visited websites. Google remained the most visited website, with a 33.7m visitors in May, with the previous second spot incumbent MSN dropping to 26.4m visitors.
Nielsen conclude that Facebook’s growth in the UK is being driven by the over 50s, with the number of 50 – 64 year olds visiting the site growing by 84% since 2009. By attracting these more mature members Facebook’s user demographic now more accurately reflects the general UK population.
