How many downloads should your branded app earn?

A Deloitte report has looked into how many downloads branded business iOS apps can hope to receive, as reported by AdvertisingAge. Deloitte’s figures suggest 20% of branded apps achieve more than 1,000 downloads, with only 1% making it to the dizzy heights of 1,000,000 downloads.

Given these benchmarks, how do brands make their apps stand out? Deloitte suggest using the devices built-in camera and GPS / location-based services can encourage downloads. As an example, Deloitte highlights Pepsi Loot app, which rewarded consumers with music downloads when they visited places where Pepsi is sold.

In the AdAge item Toby Horry, Managing Partner of digital agency Dare, says the best branded apps are functional and understand what consumers need. Horry praised the Sky Plus app, which allows users to record TV shows remotely.
