Event marketing is about creating an occasion, or activity, focussed around a single theme, or marketing message. The event can be focussed on a single company (for example a product launch) or an attempt to gather different businesses and customers together (trade shows being the most common example here).
Digital platforms have opened up event marketing from being purely focused on the physical world and allowed virtual events to take place, increasing the reach of event marketing beyond those able to make a physical location at a specified time.
Another use for digital platforms is to create a buzz about an upcoming event and increase participation. Flash mobs are one example of this, sometimes used in conjunction with viral marketing.
