Sponsored tweets don’t work for SMEs

Investors.com has been asking ad agencies their opinions on whether sponsored tweets work for the SME market, and the general consensus is that they aren’t worth the expense.

The main issue appears to be that when SMEs spend between $10,000 – $30,000 on a Twitter campaign they need to see an immediate, and substantial, return on investment to make the cost worthwhile. Something that, so far, Twitter has proven unable to deliver.

Hillary Bressler, Chief Exec. from.Com Marketing:

“It’s more about image and branding. For a lot of small and medium-size businesses, if they spend $10,000 to $30,000 on a campaign they need to see a 4% to 5% return, and some require an 8% or 9% return (from direct sales).”

Whilst Twitter seems unsuitable for paid marketing campaigns it can prove very useful for professionals that use their Twitter account to directly engage with potential clients.

Twitter is a platform that builds relationships between organisations and potential customers, and corporate users need to remember this when deciding how to make best use of the platform.
