5.7 billion YouTube channels and nothing on

5.7 billion YouTube channels may be an exaggeration at the moment but if the video sharing site continues is growth patterns then the day will surely arrive when every single person on the planet has their own channel.

May 2011 was the sixth birthday for YouTube and their blog produced some new statistics to mark the occasion. The standout figure is that every minute of the day (and night) 48 hours worth of video are uploaded to YouTube, a 100% increase on the amount uploaded per minute in May 2010.

With so much footage being uploaded, it’s a challenge for companies using YouTube to promote their products to keep their videos in people’s minds and stop them being lost in the swathing mass of dancing babies, people falling over, and Star Wars parodies.

Marketers need to promote their YouTube videos through their other marketing channels and promote the idea of viewers sharing the footage through social media sites such as Facebook. Taking these approaches will boost the number of views their video receives and help keep it in consumers minds.
